Articulus Surgical Raises Funding from Kalaari Capital — and This Is Just the Beginning

After nearly five years of building India's first indigenous surgical robotics ecosystem, Articulus Surgical has raised a Seed round of funding led by Kalaari Capital — celebrated by The Economic Times, YourStory Media, The Unicorn Magazine, VentureDesk, Viestories Media, Grishin Robotics, and more.

For years, the story of surgical robotics in India has been one of imported promise and local constraint. World-class robotic systems existed. Indian surgeons were more than capable of using them. But the gap between what was clinically possible and what was practically accessible remained wide.

That story is changing. And Articulus Surgical is at the centre of that shift.

Articulus Surgical has raised a Seed round of funding led by Kalaari Capital to commercially roll out its indigenously built surgical robotics systems across Indian hospitals. The amount has not been disclosed.

The announcement was recognised by leading publications including The Economic Times, YourStory, The Unicorn Magazine, VentureDesk, Viestories, and Grishin Robotics, reflecting the significance of this moment for Indian surgical innovation.

The capital will be used to accelerate market deployments, expand surgeon training programmes, and deepen hospital partnerships over the next 12 to 18 months. The round is also backed by Gaurav Agarwal, Cofounder and Managing Director of Innvolution Healthcare, and Sandeep Daga, Managing Director of Nine Rivers Capital.

Founded in 2019, Articulus Surgical builds robotics systems for minimally invasive soft-tissue surgeries — a segment where adoption remains low despite large procedural volumes. Globally, robotic surgery penetration is estimated at around 5 to 6 percent. In India, it remains under 1 percent.

Much of this gap comes down to design. Most imported robotic systems are large and infrastructure-heavy, built for operating rooms that look very different from those in most Indian hospitals, which are often smaller and more resource-constrained.

Articulus Surgical is building to address exactly that gap.

The company’s flagship system, Pulsar, is a compact modular robotic platform for minimally invasive abdominal and pelvic surgeries and is currently undergoing clinical validation ahead of commercial deployment. Articulus has also developed Nebula, a robotic surgery training and simulation platform being deployed in teaching hospitals and medical colleges, and Galaxi, an intelligent surgical optics robot.

Together, these systems form a connected ecosystem designed to support adoption from training to deployment.

Kalaari Capital’s backing reflects belief not only in the company, but in the category itself. Accessible, high-quality healthcare remains one of India’s most important opportunities, and surgical robotics has the potential to expand precision, safety, and minimally invasive care across the country.

For Articulus Surgical, this round marks an inflection point. It allows the company to move from years of focused development into a phase of scale and adoption, while staying anchored in a Make in India approach built for real hospital environments.
